Celebrating Social Justice Through Art: The Morgan School Murals

Art has always been a powerful tool for social change, and in Clinton, CT, two new murals at The Morgan School serve as a testament to that fact. In a joint effort between the Clinton Arts Council and the Morgan School Social Justice Club, the school now boasts two vibrant murals that celebrate the pursuit of social justice both locally and globally.

The murals were unveiled in the school’s lobby in July 2021 at an event attended by members of both organizations, as well as the Clinton Human Rights Committee and town council member Christine Goupil. Created on canvas by local artists, the murals are a striking addition to the school’s decor and serve as a reminder of the community’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The creation of the murals was a true community effort. The Clinton Arts Council worked with the Social Justice Club at The Morgan School to develop the concept and find local artists to bring it to life. The Clinton Human Rights Committee also played a role in the project, underscoring the town’s commitment to social justice and equity.

Art has always been a powerful tool for social change, and these murals at The Morgan School serve as a testament to that fact. By bringing together different groups in the community to celebrate diversity and promote social justice, the murals serve as a powerful reminder that change is possible and that it can start with something as simple as a piece of art.

The Morgan School murals are more than just decorations—they are symbols of hope, inclusion, and progress. They serve as conversation starters for students, teachers, and visitors alike, sparking discussions about the importance of social justice and how we can all work together to make a difference in our communities and beyond. We can only hope that more schools, organizations, and communities follow suit, using art to inspire social change and celebrate the beauty of diversity.
